하이커우냐 싼야냐, 엄마 시선으로 본 하이난 리조트 비교/Mission Hills vs. Mangrove: A Real Mom’s Family Travel Review

 

하이난 싼야 맹글로브 리조트 후기 🌴

하이커우와는 또 다른 매력, 그러나...

지난번 하이난 미션힐 다녀온 후, 주변 지인들이 정말 많이 물어보시더라고요.
그때는 정말 얼결에 떠났던 여행이었는데 너무 좋아서 매년 가고 있어요.
그래서 이것저것 정보를 많이 드렸는데… 이제는 그 리조트 가면 한국 사람 더 많아지는 거 아닐까 걱정이 되네요 ㅎㅎ

이번에는 같은 하이난이지만 남쪽 바다 지역인 싼야를 다녀왔어요.
하이커우가 산이라면, 싼야는 완전 바다 쪽!
바다 수영도 가능한 지역이라 색다른 매력이 있더라고요.

우리가 묵은 리조트는 "맹글로브"

전체 4박 5일 중 2박은 골드카드로 지냈어요.
미션힐과 달리 이곳은 리조트 내 입점한 개인 식당에서 골드카드 사용이 가능하더라고요.
하지만 입점한 식당이 많지 않아서 선택지가 너무 적었고,
생각보다 음식이 입맛에 안 맞아서 결국 외부에서 사 먹었어요.

가이드는 한국인 입맛에 맞게 주문할 수 있다고 했는데…
문제는 영어가 전혀 안 통해서 그게 쉽지 않았네요 😅

조식은 어떨까?

출발 당일 저녁비행기로 새벽 도착 → 푹 쉬고 아침 조식 먹으러 갔는데...
향신료 향이 진~하게 올라오는 음식들 😵
기름도 많이 쓰는 듯했고, 저는 조금 힘들었어요.

그나마 에그타르트와 쌀국수는 괜찮았고요,
나머지는 저는 그냥 패스 ㅎㅎ

맹글로브 조식 자체는 나쁘진 않았지만, 향신료에 민감하신 분들께는 비추!

리조트 뷰와 규모는?

뷰는 진짜 예술이에요.
규모는 엄청 광활하진 않지만, 운동 삼아 걸어다니기엔 딱 좋아요.
미션힐처럼 셔틀버스를 탈 필요는 없어요.

여행은 반 패키지로!

오전엔 투어, 오후엔 물놀이 일정으로 진행했어요.
오전 투어는 주로 쇼 관람 + 유적지 구경 위주였고요,

**'송성가무쇼'**는 어린 친구들과 보기 좋더라고요.
당시 4살이던 조이도 재밌게 봤어요.

공연장 근처엔 간이 놀이공원과 키즈 놀이터가 있어서
아이들이 쇼 안 보고도 놀 수 있었어요.

밤엔 야시장도 있었지만...

아이들 있다 보니 쇼핑은 거의 포기했어요.
아기자기한 야시장 구경은 다음 기회로~

마지막 날, 공항에서의 고생 😢

싼야 공항은 작고, 대합실 의자가 부족해서 정말 힘들었어요.
특히 새벽 1~2시 비행기가 몰리는 시간대라 북적북적...
아이와 함께라면 유모차 필수! 꼭 챙기세요.

결론적으로…

하이난은 여전히 매력적인 여행지지만,
싼야는 저희 가족에겐 조금 버거운 여행지였어요.
특히 하이커우의 여유롭고 쾌적한 분위기와 비교하자면…

역시 늘 가던 데가 최고!
다음엔 다시 하이커우로 떠날 예정입니다. ㅎㅎㅎ

리조트 규모	대형 리조트, 셔틀버스 이용 필수 엄청 넓어서 리조트 안에서 모든 것 가능	크지만 걸어 다닐 수 있을 정도 산책하기 좋은 사이즈
골드카드 활용	리조트 자체 운영 식당에서만 사용 가능 음식 맛 좋고 한국인 입맛에 잘 맞음	외부 입점 식당에서 사용 종류가 적고 입맛에 맞지 않아 외식 필요

맹글로브는 ‘체험’과 ‘모험’ 위주의 액티브한 여행지였어요.

아이들이 아직 어릴수록, 그리고 부모가 휴식도 원하는 일정이라면
하이커우 미션힐이 확실히 더 편하고 만족도 높았어요.

맹글로브는 새로운 걸 체험하고 싶은 분들께는 좋지만,
언어 장벽과 음식, 공항 환경은 단단히 대비하셔야 할 것 같아요!

[Travel Review] Mangrove Resort in Sanya, Hainan 🌴

A different charm from Haikou... but still?

After my last blog post about Mission Hills in Hainan, so many friends started asking me about it!
It was such a spontaneous trip, but we ended up loving it so much that it became our yearly tradition.
I shared a lot of information, but now I'm a little worried that more Koreans might start going there... haha 😅

This time, we visited Sanya, which is in the southern coastal part of Hainan.
If Haikou is known for its mountains, Sanya is all about the sea—perfect for swimming in the ocean.

Our Stay: Mangrove Resort

We stayed for 4 nights and 5 days, and used the Gold Card for 2 of those nights.
Unlike Mission Hills, where the Gold Card can only be used at resort-operated restaurants,
Mangrove allows you to use the Gold Card at independent restaurants within the resort.
You just show the card when ordering food.

But unfortunately, there weren’t many restaurants available, so our options were limited.
And honestly, the food didn’t really suit our tastes...
We ended up eating outside most of the time.

The local guide said you can request dishes to be more “Korean-friendly”...
But communication was tough since no one spoke English, and that made it quite difficult. 😭

How was the breakfast?

We landed very early in the morning, so after some rest, we headed to breakfast—
And wow, the flavors were quite intense.
Most dishes had strong spices and were quite oily.

That being said, if you’re sensitive to spices, this might be challenging.
But personally, I found the egg tarts and rice noodles pretty decent.
The rest? I skipped, haha.

The Resort View and Size

The view was absolutely stunning—no complaints there.
The resort itself isn't huge, but it's a nice size where you can walk around for exercise.
Unlike Mission Hills, you don’t need to take a shuttle bus to get around.

Our Schedule: Half-Package Tour

We booked a half-package, so we did tours in the morning and pool time in the afternoon.
Morning tours included live shows and visits to historic sites.

One show we saw was “Songcheng Performance”, which was great for kids!
Even my 4-year-old, Joy, enjoyed it.

The show venue was more like a theme park, with animals and local food stalls.
There were also playgrounds and small rides outside,
so even if your kids don’t watch the show, they’ll still have fun.

What about night markets?

There was a night market, but traveling with young kids made it hard to really enjoy the shopping.
Next time, maybe when they're older!

Final Day: The Airport Struggle 😮‍💨

Sanya Airport was a tough experience.
It’s very small, and we had a late-night flight (around 1–2 AM) along with a few other flights at the same time.
The airport was crowded, hot, and had very few seats in the waiting area.

If you're traveling with little ones, a stroller is a must.

In Conclusion...

Hainan is still a lovely destination,
but for our family, Sanya felt a bit overwhelming compared to the relaxed vibe of Haikou.

So yes... we’ve decided to stick with what we know and love—Haikou for our next trip! 😄

Location / Atmosphere	Located in the north, mountain-side area. Cooler weather, calm and peaceful.	Southern coastal city. Hot, humid, more touristy and crowded.
Resort Size	Very large resort with shuttle buses. Everything is inside the resort.	Big but walkable. Nice for strolls and easy to get around.
Gold Card Usage	Usable only at resort-operated restaurants. Food suited to Korean tastes.	Usable at independent restaurants inside the resort. Limited options and food didn't suit our taste.
Meals / Breakfast	Mild flavors, kid-friendly options. Breakfast buffet was satisfying.	Strong spices, oily food. Egg tarts & rice noodles were okay, the rest not so much.
Tours / Activities	Everything available within the resort. Very little need to go outside.	Half-day package: morning tours (shows, local sites), afternoon pool time.
Facilities for Kids	Excellent: kids zones, water parks, themed areas.	Small playgrounds and rides. Night markets less suitable for young kids.
Airport Experience	Haikou Airport is clean and easy to navigate.	Sanya Airport is very crowded, especially at night. Hot, limited seating. Strollers are a must.
Family-Friendly Rating	★★★★★ – very comfortable and relaxing	★★★☆☆ – adventurous but a bit tiring

Mission Hills was the perfect place for rest and relaxation.
Mangrove Resort offered a more adventurous and active experience.

For families with young kids—or parents needing a real break—
Mission Hills in Haikou is the clear winner for comfort and peace of mind.

Mangrove in Sanya is better for those who want something new,
but be prepared for spicy food, communication issues, and a chaotic airport.
